What is Fashion In Progress?

How was founded

Fashion in Progress is a non-profit organization founded in Milan in September 2024, during Fashion Week, following the convergence of its founders’ intent to contribute — through their expertise in the fields of law and fashion — to the support, protection, and guidance of “Fashion Workers” — that is, all those who work, collaborate, or otherwise contribute to the Fashion Industry. The organization aims to raise awareness among industry components on key issues while promoting initiatives necessary to improve the professional and social conditions of this category.

Fashion workers

Of U.S. origin, the term “Fashion Workers” refers to all activities carried out in the Fashion Industry (mainly models, but also photographers, influencers, performers, digital creators, makeup artists, etc.) that play a fundamental and decisive role in the development of fashion. This Industry, in addition to being a key sector in economic and industrial production, is also considered part of a shared “European cultural heritage,” alongside other factors. Furthermore, it is regarded as a key sector for the Italian economy, with “Made in Italy” being one of the most important tools for commercial attraction, often used as a synonym for luxury and excellence, and influencing the fashion scene at both the European and global levels.

Protection needs

Despite the fundamental role played in fashion, the category of Fashion Workers lacks specific legislative regulation — both at the national and EU levels — that is strategic and responsive to the actual needs of those working in the industry. In fact, there is often a complete absence of laws, provisions, and regulations, which represents the primary cause of the precarious conditions faced by Fashion Workers, who are forced to work fully aware of the lack of basic protections or, at the very least, in a position of clear contractual weakness.

Mission

Fashion in Progress therefore sets itself the main goal of actively supporting Fashion Workers, steadfastly representing the interests and rights of those working in this essential Industry within the Italian and European landscape, while preventing any form of abuse, exploitation, mistreatment, or any other violation of their rights. The Association also intends to provide its contribution, on a voluntary basis, to Fashion Workers by supporting anyone in need regarding any issues related to their work in the sector.

The organization aims to raise awareness among industry components on key issues while promoting initiatives necessary to improve the professional and social conditions of this category.
